The biggest decade in American rugby starts now.
Let's get you ready for it. Rugby sevens hits Los Angeles in 2028. The Rugby World Cup comes to the US in 2031 and 2033. One-on-one mentoring and in-person skills training for players of every age, plus college recruiting guidance, from former USA Eagle and four-time national champion Colin Hawley.
American rugby has never had a runway like this.
Rugby sevens is one of the first sports on the field at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, July 12 to 18 at Carson Stadium. Three years later the men's Rugby World Cup comes to the United States, and the women's follows in 2033. It's the first time the 15s World Cup has ever been played here.
That's three home tournaments in five years. The players who'll wear the Eagles jersey in them are in high school right now, and college is where they get built. Pick the right program, train the right way, and you give yourself a real shot at being part of it.

About Colin
I'm Colin Hawley, and rugby runs in my family. My dad played rugby and football at Cal, then kept playing for the Olympic Club and the BATS. I grew up around the game in Northern California and never really left it.
At Cal I won four national championships and co-captained an undefeated title team. I played for the USA Eagles at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, on the squad that beat Russia for what is still the last US men's win at a World Cup, and at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens. I also won bronze with the US sevens team at the 2011 Pan American Games. For more than 12 years I've called the college and pro game for ESPN, Fox, the Pac-12, and Major League Rugby.
I've seen this from every side. Player, captain, coach, and broadcaster. I know what college coaches look for, and I know how confusing the process feels for families going through it the first time.
Here's what I believe. The players who wear the Eagles jersey at a home World Cup are in high school right now. Some of them have never been recruited. Some don't know yet how good they could be. My job is to help them find the right program, get in front of the right coaches, and show up ready. For younger players it starts earlier than that. Learn the game the right way, build real skills, and fall in love with it.

Frequently asked questions
Do you guarantee a roster spot or scholarship?
No. Nobody honest can. I help you put your best foot forward and reach the right coaches. The decision is always the program's.
Do you work with women's players?
Yes. Women's college rugby now includes NCAA varsity programs with their own recruiting rules, and I help families with both men's and women's pathways.
Are sessions in person or online?
Both. Mentoring and recruiting sessions are by video, so I can work with players anywhere. One-on-one skills and strength sessions are in person at [field location] in the Sacramento area.
Do you coach strength training?
Yes, for high school and college players. The Strength Starter teaches the core lifts in person and gives your player a rugby-specific program to follow. Younger players stick to bodyweight work and movement skills.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain is rugby weather. If conditions aren't safe, I'll move the session and you'll get a link to pick a new time.
Can parents join?
Yes, and I encourage it. A parent or guardian is welcome on any session and joins every call for players under 13.
How young can players start?
I work with players from grade school through college. Sessions for younger players are shorter and focus on skills, decision making, and enjoying the game. Recruiting comes later, when it matters.
What if my player is new to rugby?
That's fine. Plenty of college programs recruit athletes who are still learning the game. We'll focus on development and the right fit.
How do I pay?
You pay securely by card when you book. The Recruiting Package is split in two, half at kickoff and half at the midpoint session.
What if I need to reschedule?
Use the link in your confirmation email to move your session anytime up to 24 hours before. Sessions aren't refundable, but you can always reschedule.
